The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) and the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA) is seeking feedback from Toronto residents on ways to manage ambient noise in and around the harbour and the BBTCA.
In January, Jacobs Consultancy completed a ground-breaking study on ambient noise levels in the waterfront area. Sixteen recommendations were submitted to the TPA to help mitigate excessive noise coming from the BBTCA.
As the airport continues to grow in popularity as a crucial element of Toronto’s economic infrastructure, the TPA is aware that a wide range of carefully planned noise-management measures will have to be implemented in order to protect the quality of life of nearby residents.
The TPA has taken immediate steps to manage ambient noise, including the construction of new noise barriers, increasing fines for aircraft violating the 11 p.m. curfew, extending the noise-sensitive areas requiring a minimum flyover altitude of 2,500 feet, and favouring cleaner, quieter aircraft.
The TPA is committed to establishing a long-term dialogue with Toronto residents and other stakeholders through a permanent advisory body, helping us to develop and maintain a sustainable and responsible airport operation.
